Sailing Boat

You can use the below information to determine, based on the in water hull length, the Ultrasonic Antifouling system you will require and the positioning of the Transducer(s).

Sailing Boat up to 10m in water hull length – Single or Double Transducer System

CleanABoat.com Advanced Ultrasonic Antifouling – Single or Double

The CleanABoat.com Advanced Ultrasonic Antifouling – Single system is developed for vessels up to 10 waterline length, this system utilizes a single Ultrasonic Transducer and our Advanced Transducer Control Module. The positioning of the Transducer should be toward the rear of the vessel forward of the stern gear and if your vessel has a propeller shaft the transducer should be positioned about half way or 2/3rds of the way back between the shaft exit position and the propeller position off the centreline of the hull to either port or starboard. See image right.
What if you have a Catamaran? Catamarans require basically double that of a monohull design. As there is two hulls to protect. IE if you have a Catamaran that is less than 10m of in hull water line length then you would require a Advanced Ultrasonic Antifouling – Double system which comes with two Ultrasonic Transducers and two Transducer Control Modules. Mounting each in the same position in each hull. feel free to contact us if you have any concerns or questions about your configuration.

Ultrasonic Antifouling Double System

The CleanABoat.com Advanced Ultrasonic Antifouling – Double system is developed for vessels that are more than 10m in water hull length but less than 20m. A Second Ultrasonic Transducer is mounted in the bow of the boat to extend the protection past the 10m mark. This should be positioned in a similar location as in the image (see image left) approximately 1/3rd of the way back from the bow. A forward bilge compartment or similar is generally a good place to mount the unit and will already give an idea on where the wiring can be run. CleanaBoat.com Advanced ultrasonic Anti-fouling Double system comes with our advanced control unit and two transducers.

Sailing Boat Over 20m in water hull length – Quad Transducer System

CleanABoat.com Advanced Ultrasonic Antifouling – Quad Transducer System

As Vessels grow to over 20m of in hull water length so does the beam(width) of the vessel, and this must be taken into consideration. We have found that anything over 20m of in water hull length usually requires double the transducers to offer a high level of hull protection. IE if your vessel is 24m of in hull water line length there is a good likelihood that you will require a quad system which has 4 ultrasonic Transducers. Our Ultrasonic Antifouling Quad system comes with 4x 50W Hull Transducers and our Advanced Control Module pictured below.

But How does it work?

Ultrasonic Antifouling works by broadcasting a specially tunned range of sweep frequencies outside of the audible range through the hull of your vessel. Our special mounting method gives the ultrasonic transducers excellent adhesion to the hull and allows these sound waves to resonate throughout making the hull into a single large ultrasonic driver. These ultrasonic frequency waves create an inhabitable location for bio fouling organisms, preventing your hulls fouling.
